Even more comprehensive attacks on wages and social standards will be demanded in order to remain “competitive.” At the beginning of the year, the Ifo Institute for Economic Research at Munich university proposed wages in East Germany should be cut, since after accession regional funds provided by Brussels would diminish and a rise in unemployment threatens.
