Current Resolution:In the United States, plea bargaining in exchange for testimony is unjust.
Assignments:Affirmative or Negative cases will be due on Wednesday the 29th. We will have debate rounds.
Affirmative and Negative Contentions:
Plea bargaining in exchange for testimony creates in incentive for false testimony.
Yes.
By giving a criminal a chance to plea bargain, we are essentially saying to them, "Look, if you tell me about your friends, and higher-ups, and I think the information is worth-while, I'll lower your criminal status." This obviously creates an opening for a criminal to disclose false testimony. In the end, we will have no suspects, and the only criminal we have in custody, is sitting in a county jail, watching Cable TV.
No.
This is false because although it is true that criminals can give false testimony, the information would be check and double-checked. Even if it wasn't, and we found out it was false, we can always pull the criminal out of jail and charge him for lying to Federal Prosecutors.
