Should public funds go toward aiding border militia groups in the US to stem illegal immigration?

Background and Context of Debate:

With a major problem with illegal immigration into the United Stats, combined with a lack of border patrol resources, many have asked whether it would be a good idea to pay border militias to help control the problem. This would be similar to contracting with mercenaries in foreign wars.
