Talk:Argument: Defendants do not have the free right to choose in regard to plea bargaining
From Debatepedia
often they are pressured into recieving whatever deal the prosecutor whats to ram down their throats, ever heard of ron williamson? In our justice system, we have due process, which allows criminals to have fair trials. Also involved in the formation of the idea of due process is the idea that allows for a criminal to get what he deserves. When we allow plea bargains to continue, all sense of the criminal getting his just deserts is lost. The criminal who is let go receives no comeuppance for his deeds. Is that justice? Not only that, but the right to a speedy trial, guaranteed to them, is being taken away. Most of the time, they don’t even have a choice.
