Community building on user pages and discussion pages continued...

Noel, I've been doing a lot of work on existing user pages. I've sent the welcoming message (modified) out to the nearly 300 registered users we have already. This is pretty important, in addition to always communicating with users the instant that they make an edit on the site, making suggestions, and even building content around or synthesized with the edit that they make. One source put it really well, saying that you need to "love" your users and editors in order to build a village. It's stuck with me pretty well and makes sense. I'm also trying to frame the main page discussion page as a place for editing users to inform the community about the editing work that they are doing and draw the community's attention to their work.--Brooks Lindsay 22:22, 4 November 2007 (CST)

Initiating the use of user pages and the main page discussion page

Hey, just figured I would initiate our use of these pages for communication. This is very important for other community users to see. We should start communicating more frequently on the Main Page discussion page, which will be the main community discussion page for a while here, as it is the most obvious place for it. It is important for people to start feeling that it is appropriate to post basic informal comments on all of these discussion/talk pages. Agreed? I'm also going to be creating a welcome "letter" to be posted as a comment of new user pages, which will give the key introductory/tutorial information and links.
